This Editorial Policy describes how Equal Rights for Divorced Fathers (ERDF) gathers, reports, edits, and publishes news, analysis, and opinion. It applies to every piece of content published on equalrightsfordivorcedfathers.com.
Accuracy and Verification
Every news article published by ERDF is fact-checked before publication. Statements of law are checked against the primary statute, case citation, or rule. Quotes are verified against the original source, whether that is a court filing, public hearing, press release, or recorded interview. When we cite social media content, we link to the original post and identify the creator. When we cite a viral video, we link to the original platform URL and identify the creator’s account or handle.
Sourcing Standards
We prefer named, on-the-record sources. Anonymous sources are used only when (1) the information is of significant public interest, (2) it cannot be reasonably obtained on the record, and (3) the source’s reliability has been independently verified by Editor-in-Chief Michael Franklin or a designated senior editor. We do not publish allegations against named private individuals without giving them an opportunity to respond.
Separation of News and Opinion
News articles aim to report facts neutrally. Opinion pieces, commentary, and op-eds are labeled clearly with an “Op-Ed,” “Commentary,” or “Analysis” category tag. Headlines on opinion pieces are written to indicate their perspective.
Conflicts of Interest
Writers and editors must disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationship that could reasonably be seen as influencing their coverage. ERDF staff do not accept gifts, paid travel, or compensation from any organization we cover. If a writer has a relevant prior involvement (for example, a personal custody case in a jurisdiction we are reporting on), it is disclosed in the article.
Sponsored Content and Advertising
Display advertising and sponsored content are visually distinct from editorial content and are labeled “Sponsored” or “Advertisement.” Advertisers have no influence over our editorial decisions and do not see articles before publication.
Updates and Republishing
When a published article is updated with significant new information, we add a dated update note at the top or bottom of the piece. Routine copyedits (typos, formatting) are not noted. Articles that are substantially rewritten will note “Updated” with a new timestamp.
Reader Feedback
We welcome reader feedback, story tips, and corrections. See our Corrections Policy for how we handle errors, and our Contact page to send tips or letters to the editor.
Editorial Responsibility
All editorial decisions at Equal Rights for Divorced Fathers are the ultimate responsibility of Michael Franklin, Editor-in-Chief. Readers with questions about editorial standards or specific coverage decisions may reach out through our Contact page.
